Who We Are

Eastern States Associates, Inc. founded in 1955 by Edward Maxwell, Sr., is a manufacturers' rep agency covering the northeastern and midAtlantic states. We sell our products through distribution to the retail petroleum industry as well as commercial and industrial wholesalers. Fiberglass underground storage tanks, steel above ground tanks, air compressors, pumps, specialty piping, pressure vessels, canopies and LED lighting are our primary product areas.

Our Mission Statement

To represent and assist in the sales and specification of quality products used for the storage and transfer of air and liquids, specifically compressed air, gasoline, fuel oils and water.

Our Team

Ed Maxwell

Ed joined his father in the business in 1975. He took over as president in 1990 and as CEO since 2010 when Joe Flick was named president. Along with Tim Murphy, Ed covers the New England territory. Ed's hobbies include music, kayaking and biking. He plays clarinet for several community orchestras as well. His wife, Linda, is ESA's CFO and, between the two of them, they have three daughters and four grandchildren.


Joe Flick

Joe has been with ESA since 1980. He has been president since 2010. Along with John Didonato, he covers the New York, New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, VIrginia, Maryland and Delaware territory. In addition, he assists wherever and whenever someone needs help to keep our customers happy. Joe loves sales and is always thinking of products that make sense for the future of ESA. But, more importantly, he loves his family--his wife, two boys, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. His hobbies include bowling, and watching his grandchildren play the sports they love. He is a NY Met fan as well as NY Giant fan.


Suzanne Chagnon

Suzanne joined ESA in 1999 as the Customer Relations Manager. Her background includes 7 years in marketing for a major construction tools organization. She works from the Palmer, MA office where her duties include industrial quoting and order entry, ESA database management and accounts receivable. Suzanne and her husband have 2 children. She enjoys spending time with family & friends, reading a good book and any chance to get to the beach.


Marlon Contreras

Marlon joined ESA as the Director of Sales and Operations in 2024. Marlon comes to us with 20+ years of experience in industrial sales management with a focus on the Defense/Medical/EV and Commercial Industrial segments, as well as experience in finance and operations. Marlon lives in Connecticut, is married, and has a daughter who recently completed her 5 years with the Marines as a helicopter mechanic. In the warmer months of the year Marlon is an avid motorcycle riding enthusiast, can be found working on the family's 1931 Model A hotrod and attending car shows with the Model A throughout New England.


John DiDonato

Employed by ESA since 1988, John has over 28 years of Sales/Marketing experience with ESA and prior employment. With ESA, he has provided inside sales support, managed the Corporate Customer Service Department and currently handles the State of NJ and Eastern and Southwest Pennsylvania as an Outside Representative. John has extensive experience working with distributors, end users, contractors and engineers that serve the PEI Market.


Brendan Moran

Brendan joined ESA in 2024 and is the Northeast Sales Manager for Industrial Products. His territory includes New England, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Brendan has held various positions in sales. Prior to joining ESA, Brendan was Vice President of Sales for an industrial wholesaler. His hobbies include camping, hiking, soccer, and spending time with his family.


Tim Murphy

Tim started with ESA in 2011, and had been working in the the petroleum industry for 10 years. Tim is responsible for working with end-users, contractors, engineers and distribution in the the New England Territory. He lives in the Western Massachusetts area with his wife and three children.


Louis Schafer

Louis Schafer has worked in some facet of the oil industry for 18 of the last 24 years. Louis has worked both sides of the distribution channel: as a distributor sales rep/project manager, and as a direct sales representative for a PEI manufacturer and sold petroleum products for a regional distributor in Western NY and the Finger Lakes. Louis is a proud father of Rachel, a Registered Nurse, and Louis IV, a college freshman. He resides in Ithaca, NY with his beloved Becky and her children. In his leisure time Louis loves the outdoors. Often he can be found hiking one of the many trails and gorges in the region or fishing with his son. He is a fan of both baseball and football, and has coached youth sports in the recent past while raising his son.


Lee Shumaker

Lee Shumaker recently joined ESA in 2024, he covers the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia territory. He has a passion for sales and prides himself on being customer oriented. His hobbies include snowboarding, fishing, hunting, scuba diving and playing lacrosse. He is a Baltimore Ravens fan as well as a Washington Capitals fan.


Dave Xanatos

Dave started with ESA as a contractor in 2007. His expertise is in electronics and embedded systems design and programming. Dave began full time with ESA in 2015 and currently works extensively with the Containment Solutions line of above-ground and underground fuel and water storage tanks, as well as Centeron Tank Level Monitoring Systems. His hobbies include flying, hiking, high-energy physics, genetics, AI Robotics and playing the guitar. He loves to visit historic sites with his wife and grand-children, whom he spoils whenever possible.


Our History

Eastern States Associates was founded in 1955 by Edward Maxwell, Sr.

The original territory covered by "Ned" Maxwell, Bill Campion, Sr. and Bob Cole, was New England and New York state.

In 1975, Edward Maxwell, Jr. joined the company and in 1980 Joe Flick became part of the organization.

In 1983, Kevin Maxwell (who died in 2004 in a tragic skiing accident), left the U.S. Navy and became part of the ESA organization.

Over the years, from 1980 on, ESA expanded its territory south, finally reaching Virginia.
